Housing Programs

Legal Empowerment & Assistance Program

Each year, the Legal Empowerment & Assistance  Program (LEAP) of the RBSCC Housing Department successfully assists hundreds of residents in stabilizing their housing. For over a decade, the program has provided tenants with legal representation and advocacy. Currently the largest and most comprehensive legal assistance office in Bushwick, the program focuses much of its efforts on homelessness prevention. This is accomplished by working with landlords and tenants to ensure habitable living conditions and adherence to rent regulations and housing codes.

Services include:

  • Tenant organizing
  • Landlord/Tenant mediation
  • Assistance with rent overcharge complaints
  • Education on landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities
  • Legal representation in court for eviction cases, holdover proceedings, and housing part (HP) actions (lawsuits against landlords to address housing standards violations)

Food Support Connection (FSC)

The Food Support Connection Program performs prescreenings and provides assistance to individuals and families applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, taking them through the complete application process within a comfortable, community setting. Clients are walked through and assisted with the enrollment process until receipt of SNAP benefits. Advocacy and mediation are provided for individuals who are wrongfully denied these benefits. The FSC Program is available during the day and in the evening. In addition, the staff performs extensive outreach throughout the North Brooklyn community and nearby Ridgewood, Queens providing out-stationed screenings and enrollment at various sites. For general questions or information about enrollment sites and schedules, or a telephone prescreening, please contact 718-366-1830 or visit us at 184 Wyckoff Avenue. Our hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 9am to 5pm, and Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am to 7pm.
