Preservation, Rehabilitation, and Development of Affordable Housing

The Housing Department has earned a reputation in Bushwick for its leadership role in community development and neighborhood improvement. Starting in the early 1980s, RBSCC's housing program has been responsible for the preservation,  and rehabilitation and development of thousands of units of low-income, affordable housing through a variety of approaches:

  • by working with landlords to improve existing housing stock
  • by working with tenants to preserve rent stabilized units
  • by developing and rehabilitating city-owned property
  • by converting underutilized sites throughout the community to affordable housing
  • by providing effective property management services for 1,800 units of affordable family and senior housing in north Brooklyn, as well as over 100,000 square feet of community and retail space
  • by providing compassionate social services to increase housing stability of community residents
